Royer Pool
Royer Pool Info:
Built in 1962 as part of the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation building, Royer Pool was constructed a year after IU's first of 20 consecutive Big Ten titles, which included six NCAA titles from 1968 to 1973.
Royer Pool has seen many fast swimmers and great divers, including those trained by legendary coach James “Doc” Counsilman. Notable athletes such as Mark Spitz, Gary Hall, Charlie Hickcox, Jim Montgomery, Fred Schmidt, Mike Troy, Kevin Berry, and Chet Jastremski, have competed here. Counsilman’s swimmers broke countless world records while training in Royer Pool. Today, it serves as an instructional and recreational pool, housing the Aquatics Institute, the Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming, and the Academic Diving Program. Meanwhile, the Hoosiers now swim in the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, a tribute to IU's glorious past of the 60s and 70s, with walls adorned with pictures of IU legends and championship banners.
Swim Club at Indiana University's Homecoming Alumni Meet is held the night before the Homecoming Game at Royer Pool.
