SWIMMING LOVES THE HOOSIERS

Swim Club at Indiana University keeps on working hard, swimming hard, and competing hard! We competed at two different meets and had more national cuts made on our team! We also completed some volunteer hours. Continue reading to learn everything that has happened at Swim Club at Indiana University throughout January and February!

INDIANA SWIMMING Will RECOGNIZE cOLLEGE cLUB sWIMMING IN THE hOOSIER sTATE

After having Tony Young, Executive Director at Indiana Swimming, coached for one of our final practices of the Fall '24 semester, our team started getting the Indiana College Club teams recognized on the Indiana Swimming website. After further discussions and some work with an intern, all six of the Indiana College Club Swimming teams will soon be on Indiana Swimming's website for future team members to join or learn more about the teams. Swim Club at Indiana University, Purdue Swim Club, Butler Club Swim Team, Ball State Swim Club, Notre Dame Swim Club, and Trine University Swim Club will all be represented with logos linking to the team's website or Instagram. We thank Indiana Swimming, Tony Young, and Hayden Lake (Indiana Swimming UIndy Student Intern) for taking the time to help represent College Club Swimming on the Indiana Swimming website so swimmers will be able to continue into, as Bill Ramos puts it, "[their] next phase in swimming."

OUTTA THE WATER

On January 25th, Swim Club at Indiana University visited the Frank Southern Ice Arena for a fun team-bonding ice skating night. Everyone at our skating event had different skill levels, ranging from beginner, intermediate, advanced, and fancy. At the night's end, all our swimmers were skating independently or with some help from a wall or a friend. Some of our group got to show off a little, too, including our President, Marcella De-Leon Vasquez, who showed us skating on one foot. All who attended had a great time and look forward to skating again next season with the team!

On February 15th, Swim Club at Indiana University volunteered at Pantry 279 on the edge of Bloomington. Our volunteers arrived at 11 am and were put right to work. Some of the jobs that were given to us included sorting paperwork, item organization, potato packing, soap cutting, and assisting customers. Our team had a great time and was commended for our work by the employees at Pantry 279. We look forward to working with Pantry 279 again, and we returned to Pantry 279 on March 1st.

Buisness Trips to OSU & The IU NATAtorium

On February 2nd, THE Ohio State Buckeyes hosted Swim Club at Indiana University and many other teams at the 2025 Buckeye Spring Invitational in Columbus, OH. Our team left on Saturday morning and traveled to Columbus to visit the Columbus Zoo. Our team got to bond together and see a variety of different animals that inhabit the Columbus Zoo. Sunday, we had a long, fun, and competitive time at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, with several swimmers receiving National's cuts. We look forward to our next trip back to Columbus!

On February 16th, Swim Club at Indiana University hosted the 2025 Hoosier Invitational at the Indiana University Natatorium (The NAT) in Indianapolis. Our team was excited to finally swim on home turf against other teams, such as Purdue, Ohio State, Washington University of St. Louis, the University of Kentucky, and more! We had 30-plus swimmers on our roster compete, with some having their first swims EVER at The NAT! Our men placed 3rd, and our women placed 2nd, with our team placing 2nd overall, just falling short of our rival school, the Purdue Boilermakers. We look forward to hosting again at The NAT!
